Today is International worker’s day or may day. International Workers’ Day, also known as Labour Day in certain countries and sometimes referred to as May Day, is an annual celebration of labourers and the working classes supported by the international labour movement that takes place on May 1, or the first Monday in May.
The work of workers is essential in the life of the world. All are workers in a way; However, workers involved in hard manual labor work are important.
To honor the contribution of workers, May 1st is observed annually as International Workers’ Day. It emphasizes that workers should have “8 hours of work, 8 hours of rest, and 8 hours of sleep”. More than 80 countries celebrate this holiday.
In this, labor unions around the world hold rallies and special events. In the 19th century, in developed countries, 12 to 18 hours of work was compulsory. Against this, various protests were held on behalf of the workers. In India, it was started in 1923. While asserting rights, workers must also fulfill obligations. Only then can one be a real worker.
